This week, I want to introduce you to a word that’s used in multiple languages but has its origin in Persian.
शादमानी
Meaning:
It means happiness, pleasure, joy, delight, gladness.
It is often used in poetry and songs that emphasise the beauty of happiness & joy.
It is also used as a name.
You will find this word used in a lot of songs and nazms too.
Etymology &Usage:

- It originates in Persian, dating back to the 9th or 10th century AD.
- Though the word is widely used in Urdu, it’s also used in Hindi, Arabic, Punjabi, and Bengali for the same meaning.
- Some commonly used words derived from it:
Taqreeb-e-Shadmani: तक़रीब-ए-शादमानी – The Celebration of Joy (खुशी का समारोह)
Jashn-e-Shadmani: जश्न-ए-शादमानी — The Festival of Happiness (प्रसन्नता का जश्न)
Ahad-e-Shadmani: अहद-ए-शादमानी – The Era of Joy (खुशी का दौर)
ranj-e-shaadmaanii: रंज-ए-शादमानी – The Sorrow of Happiness (खुशी का गम)
