Today, the challenge is to write a poem that uses the form of a list to defamiliarize the mundane.
Poem: List of mundane, yet not so mundane
The grocery list- never seems to be clear, there’s always one on the list
The clothes and toys- my kids have outgrown this
The fuel in the car- it’s always low when I’m in a hurry
The medicine in the box- expired when I badly need
Surprise visit by friends – the day I’ve to manage a lot of other things
The traffic jam- when I’m already late for office
Essential ingredients finish- when cuisine about to be grilled
New clothes that do not fit- just the tee I didn’t try, thinking it looks a perfect fit
A much-awaited celebration- on just that day I suffer from infection
Kid sick at school- the day I’m out of city
A visit from in-laws- when day planned to minute at office
Hubby comes home early- the day I go for my shopping
Emotional call from an old friend- just when a call scheduled with client’s office
Printer ink/ paper exhausted- when important document needs printing
Another critical task assigned by boss- when other deadlines approaching
The most challenging NaPoWriMo prompt- the day I struggle to find time to pen verses

The last two lines…what an ending…
You missed one: as we grow older, be sure to use the loo before stepping out from home to do some of those errands in the list.
