ALS NaPoWriMo Day 2: Pictures- A Treasure of Past

The Prompt:

Today, let’s take out some old pictures, some photographs gathering dust in the attic, some hidden in the old folders of the laptop, or some memories peeping in the phone gallery.
Let those good and bad memories of past inspire you to write a poem on the theme “Pictures- A treasure of the past.”

My mind took me to places today! Here’s what I wrote for today:

Poem: The Thinker

Have you ever found yourself struggling to remember something?

A name, maybe- of an acquaintance or a place?

How mind relentlessly strives to recall, refusing to give up,

Circling back and forth, trying to dig up the pictures stored in it?

That’s the mind of the Thinker!

Some jumbled letters, some colors, some numbers

It comes across a lot of memories on its way- music, hugs, kisses

It uncovers some words too, but they have probably lost the meaning by now

Some tucked up emotions get triggered by resonance, but who cares!

It’s on some mission- the mind of the Thinker!

A darkness prevails; a figure emerging from nowhere

Hadn’t I torn and burnt it into ashes? The Thinker trembles, but only for a moment

It peeps through some windows; some doors that lead nowhere

A deep pit it seems, a road with many crossroads, or is it just a mirror?

It regains balance and scorns, ‘I’m the corner of a circle! I’m the mind of the Thinker!’

But, wait. Is this my portrait? How many souls have I welcomed in here? It ponders

Few shadows, fading voices, some fragments, a heap of ashes–

It seems like a whole world I’ve been feeding in here!

Books, dreams, paintings, desires– photographs of everything there is and was

A trail of time strewn intricately– Man, I’m truly the mind of some Thinker!

Rummaging through the alley of experience, trampling the diary of warnings

It stumbles upon the space of vacuum; the space seems compromised

Nothingness seems to exist everywhere and it multiplies with every ounce of time

“Is this a picture of my past? Or maybe a reflection of my future?

Maybe just a caricature of me; Whatever, it can’t fool me for long!” proclaims the mind of the Thinker!

A perfectly plausible explanation, finally draws up the Thinker,

“I have caged time through this abundance of images

I have kept everyone alive through this treasure of past

I relive joy and pain through these vapors of clouds

Do you feel trapped in your mind or your past?” the mind of the Thinker humbly asks!
