ALS NaPoWriMo Day 17: Write a poem about a structure that’s sitting empty and/or falling down.
Poem: Decay of Self
I felt her crumbling down
in my bones
in my muscles
in my brain
in my heart
every day…
slowly…
I saw her quavering
By the weight of others’ words
By the burden of her own perceptions
By the beliefs that clung to her
By her inability to voice her dissent
every day…
bit by bit…
I noticed her degeneration
in the way she inflicted her emotions
in the way she felt unsettled
in the way she interpreted situations
in the way she blamed herself
every day…
under duress…
I observed her searching
For her authentic self
For her true reflection
For her sincere confidante
For her purpose on Earth
every day…
with a hopeful prayer…
I have been a witness to her gradual decay
I am patiently waiting for her revival
