NaPoWriMo Day 1: A World Draped in Colors

Yay! It’s Poetry Writing Month again! I had been eagerly waiting for April this time as amongst other things that surround our lives, writing had taken a back seat and I really wanted to get my creative juices flowing.

So here we are with prompt for Day 1 as follows:

“Sometimes, writing poetry is a matter of getting outside of your own head, and learning to see the world in a new way. To an extent, you have to “derange” yourself – make the world strange, and see it as a stranger might. To help you do that, I’d like to challenge you to write a poem inspired by this animated version of “Seductive Fantasy” by Sun Ra and his Arkestra. If you don’t feel after watching it a little bit like the top of your head’s been taken off, and your thoughts given a good stir – well, maybe you are already living in a state of heightened poetic awareness!”

Below is my poem inspired by the prompt ( I would suggest a peek into the video before reading the poem)

A World Draped in Colors

The world seems to have transformed,

In just a blink of eye,

Collapsed or emerged- she couldn’t comprehend,

In the cloud of vibrant colors

Pyramids of reality melting away

In the galaxy of outrageous desires

Plants ambushing alien eyes

As trees burn in the island of hot fire

Earth dances at her fingertips

As she moves in rhythm

To the tune of trumpets

To the beats of the drum

Oh who says the monsters are evil?

Who calls the aliens ‘terrifying’?

Look at them dancing, twirling and singing

How every creature’s enjoying lifetime

Improbable becomes achievable

No boundaries, rules or restrictions

Life gets a new color, new zing,

Oh just adjust your perspective, your lens

Some visions are better when amplified

Some thoughts need to be abandoned

Oh we really need to step out of that mind

It’s liberating to do so, once in a while

I like so much about this. The layout, the message… I’m going to step outside, get a bit deranged, be liberated…
