ALS NaPoWriMo Day 25: Write a poem inspired by any musical instrument or a musician

Poem: The Rhythm of Music

Nadhatindhinta

My hands start following the rhythm

The moment music touches my lobes

Tabla, I wish I had learned

I wonder oft,

How is music born?

What goes inside the creative mind of the musician,

when he comes up with a new composition?

How the notes are put together

How the ragas are identified and assembled

How a new tune follows the lyrics in rhythm

Isn’t music creation the utmost form of devotion?

I hear music in the birds’ call

In the rustling of leaves in Autumn

In the pitter-patter of the rain

In the sound of the waterfall

Music I hear in the waves, ebbing and flowing in the ocean

In the rhythm of my heartbeat,

in the way my chest rises and falls

Isn’t nature the most creative musician?

I lose myself in the bells of the temple

In chanting Om, Allah, Waheguru, Jesus

Music helps me connect to myself

It transports me to another world

When words fail, music caresses the soul

Healing gently, it touches the chords of the core unknown

I wish I were blessed with this divine gift

Tabla and its beats, I dream to learn
