ALS NaPoWriMo Day 21: Peer Poems

Prompt: A writer should first be a reader. We complete 3 weeks of NaPoWriMo today and would have generated more than 1500 poems in last 20 days on this platform itself. Seek inspiration from any poem posted by your friends. Let their words be your muse today. If nothing inspires you here, choose any poem of your favourite poet outside this platform. You could choose Shakespeare or Emily Dickinson or any member of ALS. The choice is yours.

I have a lot of peers to seek inspiration from and honestly, it was difficult for me to choose. And of course, Rumi is my forever muse.

But I think this time, the poem chose me. The title of the poem “Shunyata: A State of Emptiness” by Neha Gupta written in response to #alsnapowrimo2023 #promptday12 “Void” was lingering on my mind. So, I decided to seek inspiration from this poem. Thanks Neha Gupta for the being my muse today.

The Window to My Soul

Stillness…

In stillness, I set out to find my true self

Beyond space and time, where thoughts are born,

In the silence of those thoughts, I decide to sweep in

In the quietude of my mind, I connect to myself,

In search of “Shunyata” – a state of emptiness

I feel my breath, keeping at bay all stress,

With each breath I take, I feel close to myself

Judgments, opinions, I quietly refrain,

From the outside world, I seek no validation

I, me, myself, the fear of nothingness –

It’s the voice of my ego, I apprise myself

With closed eyes, I traverse through the void,

The secrets of my soul, I hear in the silence

In aura of serenity I observe the observer,

Is this who I am? Am I seeing my spirit?

Shapeless, fearless, unperturbed, benign,

In the silence of my thoughts, I meet my soul divine

A state of stillness, a state of tranquillity,

A state of awareness of my true identity

From the noises and chaos, when I need a refuge,

I escape into myself, I cherish my solitude

I walk into myself to rediscover my role,

This stillness has become the window to my soul!
