ALS NaPoWriMo Day 26: Write a poem from the point of view (POV) of another species–any animal, any plant, any sea creature, etc.
Poem: Tree Tales
Tall, green, magnanimous
I like to bask in the glory of the Sun–
Sun, which is my nurturer
No matter how evolved I am
I value my connection with my mother–
The Earth
The wind seems playful today
It’s drizzling,
But the wind is joyfully navigating the tiny drops
My tiny, tender, green leaves that just sprouted
Feel a little startled
But that’s ok; they are learning to face the challenges of time
A few rains and sunrays later,
They will grow and mellow as their older pals,
And then turn yellow, a few seasons later
I have been a witness to this for years,
The interminable cycle of life
That continues season after season
I’ve also seen many young saplings
immaturely decease
For their roots couldn’t go deep
Perseverance and fortitude I’ve practised all my life
Embracing all the seasons,
My fruits are sweet and ripe
Air, rain, Earth and Sun,
Have nourished and guarded me
Perpetually since inception
But my tribe is being admonished
Abused, misused, and slaughtered
By indiscreet human inaction
A species we have nurtured
Since time immemorial
How can it be so ruthless to have turned against us?
The species that claims to be supreme,
is lost
in a self-created conundrum
They’ve lost their connect with nature
In their eternal search
for happiness
Happiness they seek outside,
is transient
and ephemeral
True happiness lies inside
in the acceptance
and flow of seasons
Humans–A species so unique
I hope it embraces its true nature
I hope it learns to preserve nature
