ALS NaPoWriMo Day 19: Write a poem about mistrust or unreliability. You may write about your experience of betrayal or a broken relationship, too.

Poem: I Saw You Go Away

I noticed your withdrawal–

unreplied messages stared at me,

I noticed a little wound in my heart,

I ignored it

I observed your distancing–

your unanswered calls echoed within me,

I observed the little wound bleed,

I let it bleed

I watched your aversion–

“I’ll call you back,” the call that never returned

I felt the ache in the wound

I sustained it anyway

I felt a dissociation–

Arguments, irritability, annoyance rising every day

I experienced an incessant pain in the wound

It just refused to go away

I felt the detachment–

Blame, humiliation, disrespect became your game

I sensed the wound extend its veins

It overtook my entire body

I trusted your mistrust

I honoured your dishonour

I decided to let you go

I let myself be free

My body began to breathe

My wounds started to heal

My heart stopped to grieve

My mind felt at peace
