I have been curious about the celestial objects since my childhood. I would look at the stars, moon, clouds, sky, and the rising and setting sun with great inquisitiveness as if a part of me belonged with them. I wonder what the astral space would look like. How would it be to meander among the stars, planets, moons, asteroids, comets, galaxies, and nebulae? Would I then become a part of them? Would my soul be able to traverse with them after I complete this life cycle? But ain’t I already a part of the larger existence–the one that includes the celestials–the Universe?
ਤੋਹੀ ਮੋਹੀ ਮੋਹੀ ਤੋਹੀ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਕੈਸਾ ॥
ਕਨਕ ਕਟਿਕ ਜਲ ਤਰੰਗ ਜੈਸਾ ॥੧॥
Hindi: तोही मोही, मोही तोही, अंतर कैसा ॥
(Tohee mohee, mohee tohee, antar kaisa)
कनक कटिक जल तरंग जैसा ॥१॥
(Kanak katik jal tarang jaisa)
English Meaning: You are me, and I am You, what is the difference between us? We are like gold and the bracelet, or water and the waves. ||1||
If I can feel my existence–my “beingness”–it is evidence of my connection with this living, breathing Universe. Probably, that’s why I feel attracted to the celestials, because I am a part of them, and that’s the reason that the Universe and all its elements take care of me. I can feel the stars twinkling for me, the moon smiling at me, and the clouds talking to me in stillness. How can I ever feel alone when the Creator takes care of me at every step?
ਜਹ ਜਹ ਪੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਤਹੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
Hindi: Jah jah pékhao ṫah hajoor ḋoor kaṫahu na jaaee.
English Meaning: Wherever I look, I see Him present there. He is never far away.
ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੈ ਅਪਿਆਉ ਦੇਇ ਕਛੁ ਊਨ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸੰਮਾਲਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥੨॥
Hindi: Praṫipaalae apiaao ḋéé kachh oon na hoee.
Saas saas sammaalṫaa méraa prabh soee. ||2||
English Meaning: He cherishes us and gives us sustenance. He does not lack anything.
With every breath, my God takes care of His creatures. ||2||
With this trust and profound love in my heart, I smile at the celestials and thank them for walking with me, guiding me at every step. I close my eyes in a bid to align with the Universe and establish a connection with Him, to feel His presence within. Gurbani helps me to establish this connection as the following shabad plays:
ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ
ਜਿਥੈ ਕਿਥੈ ਮੈਨੋ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਈ
Hindi: So Satguru pyara mere nal hai
jithe kithe menu lay chhadayi
English: That Beloved True Guru is always with me. Wherever I may be, He will save me.
