ALS NaPoWriMo Day 22 Prompt:

Today is Earth Day, and as writers it is our responsibility to create awareness about our environment. Let’s write a poem today about any aspect of our environment.

 

Poem: We Take a Pledge

 

Earth – beholding the roots of our existence,

Protecting mankind in the womb of creation,

Flora and fauna flourish in its lap,

How could we humans abuse it like that?

 

 

From soil to oceans, we used and misused,

We betrayed her trust, we eroded her roots,

Forest after forest, species after species,

We ravaged all others to satiate our greed

 

 

We depleted our mother of all her resources,

We unheeded her angst, we ignored her pleas,

Who gave us the right to use all privileges?

If we aren’t responsible, are we truly worth it?

 

 

We seek your forgiveness O! Mother Earth,

For all the miseries we’ve caused since birth,

We pledge to be more mindful of our ways,

And restore your glory, embellish your glaze.
